Living in Leipzig
Although Leipzig is experiencing a high population growth rate, the housing market situation is still reasonable compared to other university cities in Germany.
You can find vacant rooms either via notice-boards at the foyer of the Lipsius buidling or ask the StuRa. The most common way, however, is to use different internet platforms like wg-gesucht, where you can state the preferred price, flat size or favoured areas.
Read on to find out what liveable neighborhoods are near the HTWK campus.
Student Dorm vs. Shared Flat
One inexpensive living option are the student dorms operated by
. All flats - either single or shared - are furnished and offer a TV connection and Internet (LAN) included in the rent. There are also specially adapted flats suitable for students with disabilities and for students with families (kindergarten close by). Most students, however, choose to live in a shared flat. The south of Leipzig (Südvorstadt) along the lively Karl-Liebknecht-Straße (Karli) happens to be one of the most popular student areas. Due to a rise of rental fees, new parts of Leipzig are nowadays more frequented though, like Plagwitz in the west or especially the eastern neighbourhoods around Reudnitz. For HTWK students who wish to live not too far from the university, the neighborhoods Südvorstadt, Connewitz and Schleußig are perfect choices.
