Orientation Week
HTWK Leipzig organizes an Orientation Week for all exchange students from partner universities, which includes support for administrative appointments and an intercultural training to prepare for studies in Germany. Attendance is mandatory. It provides exchange students with excellent opportunities to get to know the university and to meet their fellow students.
Study Programmes and Courses
You can find descriptions of modules and courses in the Studienordnungof the respective degree programme. As of now, descriptions are only available in German since the teaching language of all degree programmes, with the exception of the International Management Bachelor, is German. If you have questions, e.g. concerning courses and your learning agreement, please contact the international coordinator at your faculty.
Language
The teaching language of all degree programmes at HTWK Leipzig, with the exception of the International Management Bachelor, is German. If you wish to attend courses taught in German, HTWK Leipzig requires German proficiency of at least B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. If you wish to attend courses taught in English, HTWK Leipzig requires English proficiency on a comparable level. We strongly recommend that you take German language lessons before your arrival, as general structures and university life function largely in German.
Buddy Programme
To make the arrival at Leipzig and settling in easier, all exchange students get support through a HTWK student buddy. Even before your arrival, a buddy will contact you via email and will help you with questions. Your buddy will show you around Leipzig and will assist you during your first days in Leipzig.
ECTS Credits
After successfully passing the examinations, students will be awarded 30 ECTS credits for the full semester programme. Between 2 to 5 ECTS credits will be awarded for each module.
German Grading Scale:
1,0 - 1,5 very good (excellent)
1,6 - 2,5 good (considerably above average requirements)
2,6 - 3,5 satisfactory (fulfilling average requirements)
3,6 - 4,0 pass (sufficient, fulfilling requirements despite of lacks)
4,1 - 5,0 fail (no ECTS credits are awarded)
Learning Agreement
A module (course) concludes with an exam for which you will receive ECTS credits. You are automatically registered for every first exam and every first repeat exam of the modules you attend according to your study programme (learning agreement), except you have taken a semester off or do your practical semester. Exams can be conducted either in written, oral or other way (project, seminar paper, presentation, laboratory work). For more information about the exams, please check the Prüfungsordnung of your study programme (exam regulations - content in German).
